Pre-work

Before the workshop, please complete the following steps to prepare (more details in the sections below):

  1. Get the latest pre-release version of Quarto

  2. Decide your publishing destination and get an account if needed

  3. Collect some content

  4. Get up to speed with Quarto

1. Get the latest pre-release version of Quarto

Install the latest pre-release, v1.10.*, from: https://quarto.org/docs/download/prerelease.html

2. Decide your publishing destination and get an account if needed

I’ll be demonstrating publishing your website. To follow along you’ll need an account on a hosting platform. Pick from these two options:

  • GitHub Pages: Choose this if you are already a GitHub user, and are comfortable creating a repo, and pushing to it. No additional setup required.

  • Posit Connect Cloud: Otherwise, choose this. Sign up for a free account at https://connect.posit.cloud.

3. Collect some content

There are a few things you might like to collect before the workshop:

  • A paragraph about who you are (or what your site is about)
  • A photo/image you would like on your home page
  • A list of projects, talks, classes, or publications
  • Any existing Quarto documents you would like to include in your site

4. Get up to speed with Quarto

Before taking the workshop, you should be able to:

  • Preview or render Quarto documents
  • Identify the YAML header, Markdown content, and code cells in a Quarto document
  • Specify Quarto options with YAML syntax
  • Specify files using relative paths
